Richa lends support to an NGO; to visit Kolkata for a screening, too
Actor Richa Chadha impressed the audience last year with her impeccable performance as a commercial sex worker in the critically-acclaimed film Love Sonia directed by Tabrez Noorani. The film, also starring Mrunal Thakur and Freida Pinto in pivotal roles, earned Richa two awards at international film festivals besides an outstanding achievement award for her role at the London Indian Film Festival.
It highlights the issue of international human trafficking and in her personal capacity, Richa has always shown interest in lending support to women and girl child-related causes. And ever since she has worked on this film, she has decided to give her time to several charities of her choice. And now, the actor will be visiting Kolkata to attend a special screening of the film being organised by an NGO, Apne Aap, which was started by Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Ruchira Gupta and works for the rehabilitation of survivors of trafficking.
Richa, who has been closely associated with this NGO says, “We are very happy to show and host a screening of the film to women, on whose lives this film was based on. These women have been through a great deal and now have a second chance to life and that’s what Love Sonia was about too.” The actor feels glad that Love Sonia got a chance to go to international film fests and made an impact. “And it continues to do so. I’m happy that these women will see the film and be in a position to understand that women like them have a great deal to achieve in life and there are people across the world who have joined to fight human trafficking,” adds Richa.
