WE’RE CONSTANTLY PLANNING
“Preparations for the fest begin as early as June and we constantly plan so that things are always light and breezy. Each member of the society devotes at least eight hours a day, and we constantly try to upgrade our choreography according to what would help make our performance better. Freshers join practices by the end of August, and are trained in different styles. It doesn’t take very long to bond with each other in our society. We understand that each individual puts in a lot of hard work to make the win happen, and thus we keep some of the prize money for funds while the rest is divided among members once the season ends. The money also at times is used for extra props, costumes and even registrations,” says Shreya Bansal of Verve Dance Crew, the Western Dance Society of Sri Venkateswara College.
It might be the star presence that cranks up the buzz and draws the crowds in Delhi University college fests, but at the end of the day, the traditional rivalry and sense of competition between colleges and societies remain the real deal. The battle for the top spot is intense, and like anyone would imagine, there is much that goes on behind the scenes when it comes to preparing for the final performances.
While we all get to see how these performing teams from the respective societies fare on stage, here are members from various societies giving us a peek into their practice methods, all the hard work they put in, and what all they do with the victory spoils. The prize money we win is won as a team, and being a big group of 25 girls, it is hard to divide the money, as the prize amount will vary, so the money is collected as society fund which we partly use for funding our various events of our fest and some separated to cover expenses if a member has a personal financial issue and cannot pay a certain registration fee,” says Sara Joseph of Echo, Western Music Society, Jesus and Mary College.
