No time to dance, but Kanika vows to get back to the stage this year
Author and screenwriter Kanika Dhillon is quite passionate about dance. However, the trained classical dancer, who has performed on the stage for over a decade, gets no time for it, thanks to her writing assignments. But she is now determined to take time out for her daily practice that she has been missing out on.
“I am trained in Kathak and while growing up, have performed on stage for 17 years. But when I started writing my books and now that I am busy with my films, I don’t get time for anything else. But this year, I’ve promised myself that I will get back to dancing and do live shows. Dance is therapeutic for me, and I can’t stay away from it any longer,” says Kanika, known for writing the story, screenplay and dialogues for Manmarziyaan and Kedarnath.
And does she plan to take up acting? “I never felt the urge. Also, there are no offers. I am a dancer and that the extent of performing arts that is there for me. Stage is something sacrosanct and I would rather step on it as a dancer because I know about it. Acting is not something that I am thinking about right now,” adds Kanika.
Asked about plans of writing a fourth book or exploring the web space, she says, “Books are a huge commitment and I need to take out proper time for that only after I finish working on my films. I have written one story for the web and that will be helmed by Ruchi Narain, who had earlier directed Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow (2005). We are at a very early stage right now. The series will be out this year,” says Kanika, who has also provided the screenplay and dialogues for Ra.One (2011).
