‘I’LL BE FIT IN MY 50S TOO’
Known as much for his enviable bod as for his acting, Gautam Rode shares the secret to defying one’s age
One of the heartthrobs of Indian television, Gautam Rode continues to win hearts with his acting prowess and enviable physique. The 41-year-old is a fitness enthusiast and has been hitting the gym since he was all of 16. In an interview with us, he talks about his diet and fitness routine, and his age-defying secret.
Tell us about your daily diet. My day starts with green tea. For my breakfast, I usually eat gluten-free oats mixed with 5 to 6 almonds, sunflower seed and pumpkin seed. I do take supplements and whey protein is something I swear by. It helps in muscle recovery. If I am eating apples, then I make sure that I don’t mix fruits the whole day and only eat that one particular fruit. For lunch, I eat gluten-free quinoa roti and brown rice. Brown rice poha is what I prefer for evening snack and for dinner I eat assorted vegetables with zucchini, quinoa salad, and prunes.
There is a myth that it can be tough for vegetarians to maintain a good physique. Since you’re a vegetarian, what advice would you give? With the right mix of protein from veggies, it’s achievable, and I am an example. I have maintained myself very well as a vegetarian.
How do you take care of your skin and face?
I wake up in the morning and use a face wash daily. Then I apply under eye serum and profusely apply anti-aging cream on my face. In the night, when I return from shoots, I use a makeup removal balm and apply moisturiser.
Youngsters these days are insecure about the way they look. What advice would you give to them?
I was never insecure about how I look or how I want to look. I have been pretty much content that way. I’ve been working out since I was 16 and I’ll be just as fit in my 50s.
Do you have your cheat days and what do you prefer eating on those days?
Yes, and since I have a sweet tooth, I like eating chocolate and pastries.
Do you think men should apply makeup when they step out?
If makeup can hide a certain flaw on your face, then yes, one should put it on.
