Her last Hindi film was in 2013 and Rituparna Sengupta, one of the most prominent names in Bengali cinema, is making a comeback in Bollywood. And she has filmmaker Anurag Kashyap as her co-star. Rituparna shares that she always wanted to collaborate with the filmmaker.

“Anurag’s world of cinema is fascinating. There have been times when we spoke about working with each other but things did not work out. So when it did, I was quite happy,” says the actor, adding some day she’d like to be directed by him.

Rituparna and Anurag play a couple in Bansuri. She adds that the flute, or bansuri, plays an important role in the film. The film is being helmed by Hari Viswanath, whose debut Radiopetti (2015), was the first Tamil film to win the Audience Award Best Film at the Busan International Film Festival.

Rituparna has done many Hindi films, but few fared well.

“It’s impossible to predict success or failure. So I really can’t say what went wrong. Maybe the story did not connect with the audience. I also can’t predict Bansuri’s future, but this film will definitely be something that will connect with everyone. When it comes to Bollywood, this is a good time as the industry is focusing on content and has more scope for character-driven roles. I am making a conscious effort to choose films,” she adds.

Asked if she has signed any other Hindi film, Rituparna says she has a few offers but has to “finish my Bengali films first. Once those get over, I will take up more work”.

What about the web? Many of her Bengali film industry colleagues have done web shows, and reigning superstar Prosenjit is reportedly going to explore the medium soon. “I’ve been approached but I don’t have time. I hope something will happen soon,” concludes Rituparna.
