Gulshan Grover, who turns 64 today, is determined as ever and in high spirits both on the personal and the professional front. And the actor is planning to spend time with son, Sanjay Grover, who is just back from Los Angeles, US. Excerpts from a chat:
How are you going to celebrate your birthday this year? What will you be wishing for?
Like every year, I will go to the temple and gurudwara and then spend time with my family. My son Sanjay is in town and we will go out for lunch or dinner. I wish to see Sanjay shine in Bollywood. He was in Los Angeles studying the business of entertainment. I have managed to emotionally blackmail him to come back to India. Let’s see how his career shapes up here.
What are you wishing for on the career front?
The so-called iconic villain has disappeared from the Indian cinema. It was my wish to make a comeback as an out-and-out villain and it has come true this year with three big films – Sooryavanshi, Sadak 2 and Mumbai Saga.
Any special birthday memories? Growing up, I remember going to religious places with my family on birthdays. There was not much money at home, so my parents would do the best they could. We would organise kirtan at home and distribute prasad and sweets. There was no cake cutting or singing birthday songs then.
Is that the reason why you don’t throw parties on your birthdays? Yes, I don’t. But the biggest birthday bash I had was in Los Angeles where I had gone for a Bollywood concert tour along with Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Kajol and many others. It happened to be my birthday and one of my friends had thrown a party at his house and invited all the celebrities and we had a blast dancing all night.
