Vivian Dsena wants gruelling work hours on television to change

Actor Vivian Dsena is indebted to the television industry for making him what he is today, but he wishes the gruelling work schedules of the sector affecting people’s personal life to alter.

“Working hours in the industry are really difficult. We should work for eight to 10 hours. Expecting someone to work beyond that isn’t right. It affects one’s physical and mental health. Everyone needs 6-8 hours of sleep but most people working in this industry sleep for four to five hours. And, there are social and personal commitments also. These take a toll on our health,” says the 31-year-old.

Vivian has been working for TV for over a decade and while doing daily soaps, he says it’s not easy to find ‘me time’. To rectify that, he plans to add working hours clause in his contract starting from his next show. “It’s not that I won’t go beyond 8-10 hours on certain days when it’s required. But beyond that, I’ll have to put my foot down. It’s important to understand that an actor or a technician can perform better, if s/he gets enough rest. Else it becomes tedious,” says Vivian.

After quitting his last show, the actor took a break to travel and also went to his home town Ujjain. “I like travelling by road to Ujjain. The one hour flight doesn’t give me the joy, which this 12-hour drive does. The beautiful views on the way are refreshing,” he says.

So, when does he plan to be back on the tube? Or is he considering offers from the web or Bollywood? “I don’t have any Bollywood ambition. If it happens, I’d love to get that exposure. I’m happy being on TV. Web is welcome, too. I’m not keen on doing similar roles unless the character shade is different,” he adds.
