She stepped into films with Ajnabee in 2001, on September 21, and immediately captured everyone’s attention.

After Raaz (2002) gave her a taste of huge success, Bipasha Basu Singh Grover became a household name. Not just that — when the word ‘sexy’ was a taboo, she normalised it with her role in erotic-thriller Jism (2003) again a runaway success.

Ecstatic on completing 18 years in showbiz, she says, “I’m proud to be a part of an industry where I could be myself and achieve (so much). The fans... the admirers, they are the ones who give wings to your dreams and journey of success. I want to thank every film team that I have been a part of till now, and I want to thank my fans too. I am so lucky and grateful!”

An excited Bipasha also shared a poster of Ajnabee on Instagram with a thank-you note for its makers, AbbasMustan and co-stars Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor Khan, a few days ago.

Not letting erotic thrillers stereotype her, Bipasha went on to experiment with genres, and it helped her to survive in the industry for all these years. If she played a serious role in Corporate (2006), Raaz 3 (2012) changed the game completely as she surprised the audience with her negative turn in the film. In comedy too, films such as No Entry (2005) and Phir Hera Pheri (2006) helped her to showcase a different side to her acting potential.

“As an artist we never want to be stereotyped, and try to be a part of a good film, get to play an exciting character, and try different genres. I’ve had my share of comedies, romantic thrillers, action, drama and horror. So I consider myself extremely lucky,” she says.

It’s a humbling moment that you get the love and support of people who don’t even really know you. The fans... the admirers, they give wings to your dreams and journey of success.
