‘I have worked on the script of Dabangg 3’

-

Actor Salman Khan says that with the upcoming Dabangg 3, the latest instalment in the comedy drama franchise, critics have a brand new reason to mock and bash his work.

“I have worked on the script of this film so I want all the critics to criticise it. This film is for the critics,” he laughs.

“If we get a bashing for this film, then it will be not only in Mumbai, but Chennai and Bengaluru and the entire country. But if people appreciate the film, even then it’ll resonate in the rest of the country,” Salman adds.

The actor’s jibe at the critics was in reference to the fact that his films have traditionally been blockbusters at the boxoffice but have been panned by critics for their lack of cohesive script and logic. In recent times, however, Salman’s films such as Bharat, Tubelight (2017) and Race 3 (2018) have performed below expectations at the box office along with being heavily panned by critics. With Dabangg 3, Salman hopes to turn the tide in his favour once again.

Apart from Hindi, the film is being released in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. Asked why he took so much time to go pan-India with the release of his films, Salman says, “We earlier released Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015) and quite a few films in the south, but we collected ₹1-2 crore there. But this film comes under the genre of heroism and has a largerthan-life story, which the south is crazy about. We’ve accepted their films like Baahubali, KGF and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. They have been huge hits here. I think they are open to releasing their films here and I hope that our films will also do well over there.”

Talking about the film itself, the 53-year-old says he and the team have worked harder than they did for some of his previous films. “We’ve worked 10 times harder in terms of story, production, direction, action, songs and the whole creative journey, so there’s a lot of work that has gone into making this film,” he says.

Naturally, he expects the new Dabangg to be bigger than the first two films of the series. “It doesn’t have only action and entertainment but it also has a story. When you see the film, you’ll see there is a lot more than just masala in this film,” adds Salman.
