In keeping with the Indian tradition of atithi devo bhava (guest is God), the Capital’s diplomatic circuit extended a warm welcome to five new ambassadors to India, Dionyssios Kyvetos (Greece), Brendan Ward (Ireland), Hans Jacob Frydenlund (Norway), Freddy Svane (Denmark) and Sun Weidong (China).

The evening was high on talk about the dignitaries’ contributions to their respective countries’ ties with India, and their experiences with diversity, culture and cuisine. Katrin Kivi, the Estonian ambassador, said, “When I was covering Asian countries in 2003- 2005, India was the only country that I couldn’t visit at that time. I kept it for future, which is now.”

Describing Denmark’s relations with India, Freddy Svane said, “India means a lot to my wife and me. We feel at home here. You can dwell with the past, you can enjoy the present, but you can dream about the future and that’s what India stands for.”
