Blockbuster or not, Sanaya Irani hopes her work stands out
Actor Sanaya Irani’s last big screen outing might not have made a mark at the box office, but she remains undeterred and only aims to keep doing good work. Not one to compromise on the quality of her work, Sanaya feels it is quite difficult to get good opportunities in today’s time, especially on television, from where she shot to fame.
“I’ve realised that no film is perfect. There will always be something off about every film. What I really hope for is to give a good performance that gets appreciated by people. Even if a film isn’t a blockbuster, you just hope that your work shines. Big or small, I just want to do good work, something that would make people say ‘I wish I get to play that role’. I’m aiming for that,” says Sanaya, who was last seen in Ghost.
Whether it’s TV, films or web, the actor doesn’t mind experimenting. Having worked on two web shows — Vodka Shots and Zindabad — Sanaya feels that shifting from TV to web was a wise move in terms of reaching a wider audience.
“I realised that a lot of TV shows, which didn’t necessarily gain the best TRP on television, got a lot of views on the web. For instance, Silsila Badalte Rishtoh Ka was a very modern show, but it didn’t get good TRP on television. When it went on the OTT platform, it got much better views. Because of the TRP game on television, shows with good content also don’t do well. Thus, going digital is the best decision, not only for shows but for actors, too,” she opines.
Even the most talked about shows of the 90s, and the ones that she has been a part of, including Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon that earned her rave reviews, the 36-year-old actor feels bringing them on the OTT platform would be a delight for viewers.
“So many shows shut down, leaving fans upset. But, imagine if you put them on the web or come up with a spin off, they’ll do good business. Treat them differently with limited episodes. If they do well, you go forward, and if they don’t, you take a decision, accordingly. It gives you an opportunity to test and then decide whether you want to continue or not,” Sanaya signs off.
