Kids paint their dreams of a safe, accident-free Delhi
The nip in the air was not a deterrent for hundreds of school children, who gathered near the National War Memorial to express their collective dream of safe, accident-free roads and a clean and green Delhi. Kids in the age group of 11 to 14 years from over 400 schools across Delhi-NCR let their creative juices flow as they participated in Kaleidoscope, an annual inter-school painting competition organised by Hindustan Times, together with Hero MotoCorp. The painting competition was a part of the groups’ collective CSR campaign, Be A Road Hero 2.0, that urges everyone to lead by example in matters of road safety.
The senior kids were given two topics — Be a Road Hero and Perfect Traffic in My City — while the junior kids got to choose between topics such as My Favorite Outdoor Activity and A Green Clean City. Also, a workshop was held for teachers on road safety by traffic police inspector Akhilesh Kumar Mishra and Vaishnavi Sayal, a member of the Indian Road Safety Campaign. Meenakshi Sharma, teacher, Bloomfield Public School, Dilshad Garden, said, “This is a great initiative. After all, teachers have a great role to play in educating their wards on the importance of road safety.”
Dressed in black kurtas and blue jeans, actors from Arvind Gaur’s Asmita Theatre Group presented a nukkad natak on the importance of obeying traffic signals, wearing seat belts and not using phones while driving. Artists Nupur Kundu and Bulbul Sharma announced names of the 12 winners, whose work will form a part of the 2020 PACE calendar. Cheering them were senior officials of Hero Motocorp and HT PACE-head, Education and PACE, Annapurna Sehgal.
