Actor Shweta Gulati is best remembered for playing the role of Tia in the popular 2004 youth show, Remix. Cut to 2019, she’s neck deep in theatre and loving it — she says the medium brings a rush of “adrenaline” in her life.

As an actor, she craves for good work, but adds that she isn’t competitive, and works only because it gives her joy. “Of course, there is competition. But what is meant for you will come your way. I am not in the race to be there and be seen. Mujhe bahut khushi hoti hai ghar pe bhi baithne ki. Probably I am not that ambitious in life,” Shweta says with a laugh.

“I am not doing anything mainstream. I have been doing theatre for 12 years now. After a point, there comes a time in your career where you want to do stuff that makes you happy. Paise, name, fame toh sab kama lete hai. You wake up in the morning and go: ‘F***, I did that!’ That’s what theatre is doing to me right now. The joy of being live on stage is something else. It’s incomparable,” she shares.

The actor will be seen in the play Tera Kya Hoga Walia, directed by Raman Kumar, to be staged in Delhi, soon. “This is a special appearance. It’s more of a chill zone for me. Saari mehnat baaki sab kar rahe hai,” she adds. This isn’t her first time in the city — Shweta lived in Gurugram for about two years when she was starring in a musical here and was in awe of the love she received from the audience.

“Every weekend, we’d get full houses. Theatre is very alive and loved in Delhi, compared to Mumbai,” says the actor who has also done web shows.

During her two-year stint in the city, safety became a major concern for her. Sharing an incident, she says, “[In Mumbai] I’d walk down the road in the middle of night and nobody would dare look at me. I can’t do that in Delhi after 7pm... I had a Diwali party at home in Delhi and I went out to buy liquor. The kind of looks I got, mujhe lag raha tha mujhe koi utha ke hi le jaayega.” However, she goes on to add that she misses “Dilli ka weather, food, and the wide roads”.
