In his decade-long career on television, Mudit Nayar, much like his colleagues, did at times feel stagnated, and looked for opportunities in other mediums — films and web. But, when he was offered his latest show, where he plays a deaf and mute character, he reconsider his decision of quitting TV. According to Mudit, not every day does one get to play such challenging and interesting role.

“Both as a person and a performer, I get bored easily. I’m always looking for something new. And, I think that urge is the reason why I could feel a progression in my career. TV does stereotype you, and I had faced it every time my show would get over. It happened even when my last show (Devanshi) ended. I decided to shift my focus to web and went for auditions,” says the actor.

And for some time, Mudit kept on saying no to shows with similar roles. He says, “I was determined ke kuch aur karlunga par ek jaise characters nahin karunga. But, I was also concerned that saying no to everything would affect my career. Whether a point will come when people would stop offering me work… But, when I got my new show, I felt better. You don’t get such roles on TV, so this gave me confidence.”

However, Mudit shares that he will now have to face another set of challenge once his present show gets over. The actor says, “This show will be a benchmark. Once this comes to an end and I’d have to be very careful. I have decided if things don’t work out, I would again try on the web. I might just say yes to something. The only problem I faced on that platform is that some people, who came with offers, said, ‘Thoda bold character hain’, and I’d be like, ‘Arrey script toh dikhado, agar zaroorat padhta hain toh kar lenge’. Apart from that, content-wise web is amazing.”
