‘I asked Rakeysh sir to audition me for Toofan, even though I was finalised’
Mrunal Thakur is on a career high. After doing Batla House, she is now starring in Toofan with Farhan Akhtar, and she has also landed Jersey alongside Shahid Kapoor. While the shoot of Jersey is yet to begin, the actor has been filming for the sports drama Toofan for some time now.
Mrunal reveals that she insisted on being auditioned even though she was finalised beforehand. “When the casting for Toofan was going on, I remember sitting with them and telling Rakeysh sir (Omprakash Mehra, director) ‘I also want to audition, it will be better if we capture this character on screen. You will have an idea’. One of the best things I got to know from the casting department was that I was the only person to be auditioned for this role. It made me happy,” says Mrunal.
So, how did she land the film? “I knew the film was happening, since Farhan had been prepping for the role, and thanks to the paparazzi, who cover all actors and know what they are all up to. I was dubbing for Batla House when the announcement happened. My team and Nikkhil sir (Advani, filmmaker) especially (told Rakeysh sir) ‘This girl is doing our film which will release in August’. He then visited the edit table during the dubbing, and then the film happened! It’s a chain,” reveals the 27-year old.

thing we expected only out of you’. I would come home happy despite having an early morning call time. I would be exhausted, but satisfied. I used to narrate to my parents the story from sets, and have the same energy even after pack up,” she says.
The actor, who has featured in films such as Love Sonia (2018) and Super 30, notes a change in herself. She quips, “I would be jealous of other movie actors if they are on set and I am not, so I make sure to be on a movie set as much as I can.”
There are only a handful of actors who get accepted. I have been lucky to be one of those accepted actors in the industry.
