She is one of the many actors of Bollywood, who have dived into the digital space, and Dia Mirza is looking to star as well as develop more such projects on the web. While the actor feels that the OTT platforms are way more “democratic”, there is no way that it will threaten the existence of films releasing in theatres.

“No, the big screen can never die. The smaller screens have given birth to a democratic platform for many more artistes and filmmakers to thrive and speak their truth. But, I don’t believe for a moment that it will make the other medium suffer. They will all coexist beautifully,” shares Dia, who made her web debut this year with Kaafir.

Talking about why the big screen experience will not cease to exist, the 38year-old says, “Just look at the kind of love and support good cinema is getting. The times are changing and more and more people are embracing content things that are meaningful, thoughtful and compelling.”

Not just as an actor, Dia has also produced a sitcom web series this year, Mind the Malhotras, which starred Mini Mathur and Cyrus Sahukar.

“The intention is to continue to build that kind of repertoire of work and form meaningful partnership with people I love and admire and to give myself as an artiste a chance to be a part of these stories,” she asserts.

It seems Dia is taking it slow when it comes to acting in films. In the past eight years, she has done one Hindi film Love Breakups Zindagi (2011), a Bengal film Paanch Adhyay (2012), an IranianIndian film, Salaam Mumbai and was seen in last year’s Bollywood blockbuster Sanju.

Asked why she isn’t taking up more films, Dia says, “Because Sanju does not get made every day.The kind of filmmakers I want to work with don’t make such films regularly. When they do, hopefully I will find work in them.”
