THE YEAR OF THE RABBIT?
Artist Jeff Koons’ Rabbit, executed in 1986, sold for over $91 million in May. Just about three-feet high, this sculpture in polished stainless steel was construed as a mass of contradictions — solid, weightless, sensual, and inert. It’s bidding started at $40 million and rose quickly to $60 million, with the final sale price setting a new world auction record for a work by a living artist.
