SOME FILMS ARE BEYOND THE BOX OFFICE: SIDHARTH
For actor Sidharth Malhotra, some films hold more importance than earnings
In his next film, he will be seen playing Kargil martyr Vikram Batra, which also happens to be Sidharth Malhotra’s first biopic. And the actor reveals he does feel responsible about telling the story accurately.
“For the first time, we are following one soldier’s work and his personal life in a film. His contribution to India is huge and that’s being depicted in the film. Besides his bravery on the battle field, we are also focusing on his life story, which is very entertaining,” Sidharth shares.
The 35-year-old goes on to say that he found the film to be a complete package. “He (Vikram) had a love story, he had a family who supported him, his moments of heroism, we have highlighted all of it. I think what I’m most nervous about is that his family should be happy after seeing the film. The pressure is to please the family more than the audience,” he explains.
Sidharth admits he does feel the pressure of bringing a wellmade film, especially for his family. “It is very emotional as an actor to play this role. We can’t take the pressure while filming, as it will hamper our product. I want our film to get love and respect. We’re hoping we have done justice to the characters,” he adds.
While he wants his film to do well and be accepted by the audience, Sidharth, who had two releases last year — Jabariya Jodi and Marjaavaan — says since Shershaah is a passion project for him, it goes beyond trappings of the box office. “The film matters to me more than the box office aspect. Some films are beyond box office collections. The director and the writer have done a lot of research on the film. I was very lucky to be able to meet the family...I found out so many interesting aspects about his character. It was such a heartfelt experience,” he says.
