Vidyut feels fortunate to have been accepted as an action star

- ■ rishabh.suri@htlive.com

It’s evident how actor Vidyut Jammwal has made the term ‘action’ synonymous with his name. He made his presence felt first with Force (2011), also starring John Abraham, and then, got an action franchise of his own, Commando.

On what makes him believe in this genre the most, he says, “I love action and am fortunate that I've been accepted as an action star. I think my training in martial arts made me believe that I’m capable of doing anything. It’s fortunate that our audience loves action as well — it’s the most loved, and a commercial genre.”

The Baadshaho (2017) and Junglee (2019) actor, in fact, wants to set it straight once and for all for everyone who asks him why he mostly does action films. “My ambition, when I entered this industry, was to make action as a genre that’s accessible to every kind of audience — men, who organically consume it, but also women and kids. To do this, the stories I’m now picking are to be able to connect with a wider audience,” he says.

However, the 39-year-old is now aiming to break that mould he has been cast in and try his hand at a love story, Khuda Hafiz, minus just the stunts we associate with him. Asked why he felt the need to try out something new, Vidyut says, “Khuda Hafiz is a special film and I fell in love with the script the moment I heard it. It’s an inspiring love story at its heart and that emotion weaves in the action beautifully. My character is different from what I’ve played in the past. I hope people connect with it.”

The actor, who shot for the first schedule in

Uzbekistan says, “It was so exciting and I can’t to begin the upcoming schedule, which will be a roller-coaster ride.”
