Be it talking about his career or the ways of the film industry, actor Emraan Hashmi is not one to mince words. The 40year-old doesn’t hesitate in talking about anything and everything under the sun.

But there are actors who prefer being diplomatic in their stance as they gradually rise up. Has Emraan, too, mellowed down over the years, or is he the same person that he was when he stepped into films? “I’m still honest in my opinion. If I was asked a question, I don’t think I’d be diplomatic. I’m still the same, it hasn’t altered much.

However, I might stay clear of putting out stuff which has certain political overtones… I don’t really follow politics that way. Sometimes, you want to put out stuff on social media, it’s a tricky place. It doesn’t solve any purpose, and sometimes it does,” says Emraan, whose 2020 is packed with films such as Chehre and Mumbai Saga.

Talking of social media, we ask him how he finds it as a place. The actor says, “Most of the times, it’s just one echo chamber, where people rant for the sake of ranting. Social media is a great tool for self promotion, to promote your company, your brand. But it has got some loopholes and negatives associated to it. There’s the obsession in the youth, and they are always on the phone as they have to be on the grid.”

He feels that a person stops living their life as it’s all about the virtual world, which leads to a downwards spiral. “You’re doing stuff to get those likes and views. It’s actually a big, fat lie. The social media is curated to make your life look interesting 90% of the time. It’s about, ‘Look how great my life is’. What you don’t realise is that most of the times it’s quite the contrary. It’s really disturbing. But if that’s your thing, who am I to say anything?” he says.
