Valentine’s Day is one occasion when even the most die-hard cynics end up falling for mushy cliches. But, if you want to ditch the tried-and-tested route and entertain your date with a pared-down approach, we’ve got you covered.

“V-Day is synonymous with clichés, and let’s face it, no one likes them! Try to customise your décor and celebration based on personal preferences, rather than going the traditional route. It’s a good idea to add a touch of love to your home and for that, use subtle pastel colours. Also, use subtle lighting with candles. Put extra focus on choosing a fragrance that entices romantic vibes,” says Raseel Gujral Ansal, founder, Casa Paradox.

With the day of love approaching, one can consider to incorporate other hues into the décor, along with red. “Keeping clichés at the backseat, furnish the house with accents of gold with accessories like mirrors, or sculptures, rather than using mainstream shades of red. Adding pink to your interiors can be chic and energetic that complements your aesthetics effectively,” says Natasha Jain, CEO & cofounder, Bent Chair.

Flower arrangements are always appreciated and you can hardly go wrong with a simple yet classic bouquet of roses. “Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love and when we think of love, soft, silky fabrics as well as delicate and intricate designs come to mind. Scented candles are a must on V-Day. Some of our favourite candles are from Cire Trudon,” says Prateek Jain, co-founder KLOVE Studio.

With any celebration, one needs to keep in mind to never overdue it. “Simplicity is an underrated concept, but we love it. Simple, elegant and classy. And if you want to go over the top, sticking to one colour can keep the decorations simple in its own way,” adds Prateek.
