‘MY CHOICES DIDN’T COLOUR PEOPLE’S JUDGEMENT’
Ready to break stereotypes, Angira Dhar filters the roles offered to her before signing them
It may seem that playing the role of an intelligence officer after being a girl-next-door on screen, would change the image of Angira Dhar in the film industry, but the actor, who wants to dabble in all genres, is glad to have made careful choices to avoid walking the “typical” way.
“I don’t think it (essaying an intelligence officer) has changed the offers that have come my way. Fortunately, all the people who I’ve aspired to work with and have a connect with in the business, have seen my previous work and have appreciated it. So, it hasn’t really coloured their judgement ki ab ye nahi karegi or aisa hi karna chaahegi,” Angira tells us.
Before signing contrasting roles in Love Per Square Foot (2018) and Commando 3, Angira was seen in the series Bang Baaja Baaraat. And she hopes to continue being diverse in her performances. “When people approach me, they don’t have a tunnel vision, which is helpful. But having said that, I did get a few stunt projects, which I want to go slow on because it’s a very typical thing otherwise that she has played a soldier, so now she’ll play a soldier all the time... at least for the next two, three films. Or she has played abla naari, so make her play that only,” adds the actor, who doesn’t subscribe to this idea.
Angira tends to filter these offers. “I am going slow on those kind of roles,” she says of action-oriented parts, something that she’d love to do more of. “I realised on set that I want to continue doing it. Hopefully, I’ll have my own action franchise one day. I am also hoping for that to happen. But I want to do everything and I am hoping to get a good deal in the industry,” sums up Angira.
