My song Tere Aanchal is about people who neglect their parents

Director Parag Vijra aims to always follow the path less taken, be it in terms of the short films he chose to helm, or the music he is now backing. Parag, whose single, Tere Aanchal , was released recently, says that the reactions have been nothing less than heart-touching.

“It’s doing good. The song is about the relationship between a mother and a son. There are people who start neglecting their parents and taking them for granted, and think ‘mujhe bada kar ke kaunsa ehsaan kiya hai mujhpe.’ But the moment they pass away, you have that regret. This song is about that,” says Parag, who has also directed and produced the music video.

The video does not have any star presence, which Parag says was a conscious choice. He says, “I shot the video with local people of Himachal Pradesh. I did that because I wanted random, normal people, not any stars. That’s the idea. Then we approached Divya Kumar, as his voice connects with people. He asked us to send him the song.”

Divya, who has sung songs such as Jee Karda (Badlapur; 2015) and Shubh Arambh (Kai po Che!; 2013) in the past, says, “The song was very emotional, and beautifully composed. The composer was really keen on working with me for the longest time. Tere Aanchal was the song which came up. I am always up for working with new guys. Whatever songs I have sung till now are with people who I have looked up to, be it Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, or Amit Trivedi sir. All songs have chosen me. I wouldn’t say yes or no to any song, I wasn’t in that position earlier, and I don’t want to be in that position, until I feel a song is cheap. I am lucky that my songs chose me, I didn’t.”

Parag shares that not only did people love the song, but they actually reached out to him to convey the same. “Ritesh Nalini has composed it, and Sonia Khurania has written it. Especially the elderly, aged people have said they were reminded of their kids. My dad is an Army officer, he circulated it all over,” Parag signs off.
