OTHER CELEBS WHO WENT THE SURROGACY WAY Shilpa Shetty Kundra welcomes daughter through surrogacy, joins league of other stars
On the occasion of Maha Shivratri, actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra and her businessman husband Raj Kundra announced that they had welcomed their second child on February 15. The couple was overjoyed to have become parents to the girl, born through surrogacy.
Shilpa announced the good news via an Instagram post, where she wrote, “Our prayers have been answered with a miracle. With gratitude in our hearts we are thrilled to announce the arrival of our little Angel. Samisha Shetty Kundra. Born on 15th February 2020 Junior SSK in the house (sic).”
Revealing the meaning of the unique name, Shilpa added in her post: “Sa in Sanskrit is “to have”, and ‘Misha’ in Russian stands for “someone like God”. You personify this name — our Goddess Laxmi, and complete our family”.
Raj too tweeted, expressing his happiness on “the newest member of our family”. The couple, married in November 2009, has a son, Viaan, who was born in 2012 when Shilpa was 37 years old. She had once said that she doesn’t recommend late pregnancies.
Talking about her daughter, Shilpa says, “We are feeling ecstatic.. It’s a surreal feeling just to hold Samisha in my arms. Raj and I have been trying for the last five years... I had issues but thanks to my doctor, she made it happen through surrogacy. Can’t thank God and science enough.”
She joins the like of numerous other Bollywood celebrities who opted to have children via surrogacy. A source says, “The couple wanted another child and were trying as well but ultimately opted for surrogacy to complete their family.”
Friends from the fraternity expressed their joy over Shilpa and Raj’s baby girl. Filmmaker Farah Khan Kunder posted: “Thank God couldnt hold the secret much longer bless bless & bless.” Malaika Arora wished them with, “Congratulations n god bless”, as did Bhumi Pednekar who wrote: “Beautiful... Congratulations”.
