Actors Salman Khan and Rajpal Yadav were in the news recently for snatching the phones of their respective fans who jostled to take selfies with them. And Rajpal has a very simple defence for his action.

“Fans love us a lot, but sometimes due to fans, a third or fourth person gets uncomfortable and confusion ensues. I love to get clicked with fans, but if I get injured and other fans get hurt, that cannot be appreciated,” the actor asserts.

The actor, who has entertained movie goers with a variety of roles in a career spanning over two decades, equates the situation to creating “halla” in a house.

“Agar ghar mein halla ho raha hai, shaant karna padega na. Poora ghar khopdi pe thodi na utha loge,” the Hungama (2003), Chup Chup Ke (2006) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) actor says in his inimitable style.

He further adds, “System and discipline mein pyaar bhi bahut achha lagta hai... But if it becomes troublesome for 40 others, that’s also not good. So, sometimes, to control things and in an effort to make things safe for everyone, such confusion happens. So, please consider this incident just that.”

Rajpal was at a store inauguration in Shahjahanpur when he was reportedly infuriated by a selfie-seeking fan, snatched his phone and threw it far away.

The actor, who will soon be seen in several films, including Hungama 2, Bole Chudiyan and the Coolie No. 1 remake, says he apologises to anyone who is hurt by his actions, adding that he believes, “Apni galti ka ahsaas fans ko bhi hona chahiye and celebrities ko bhi hona chahiye”.

Explaining his point, he goes on to say, “We’re also human. If someone steps on us, we will feel the pain. So this is our only request that people should understand that if celebrities have the responsibility to please fans, the fans also have an equal responsibility to keep themselves, others and the celebrity safe.”
