JUBIN SINGS TO JMC: GULABI AANKHE JO TERI DEKHI...
Performing in a flirtatious tone, singer Jubin Nautiyal rocked Montage 2020 amid tight security
Amid the glitter of ladies dressed in their best, hands held up in unison for endless selfies and the field coloured by quirky decorated stalls, Montage 2020, the annual fest of Jesus and Mary College (JMC), was a memorable affair. And what made it more special was singer Jubin Nautiyal’s performance.
Themed Magic and Illusion, the decor of the college caught the eye with props like witch hats, stars and moon origami, shimmery candles and tarot cards scattered all over. Packed with activities, food, fun and dance, the two-day fest gave its visitors a unique experience.
A CULTURAL FUSION
From music and dance competitions to photography exhibits, dramatics and debate, there was enough to enjoy. However, the dance competitions drew the most crowds with powerpacked performances. While Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce won the Indian dance competition, Sri Aurobindo College bagged the first prize for Western dance. The Indian music competition was won by Hansraj College and Gargi College topped the Western music competition.
FASHION GAME ON
Fest season means upping your fashion game and Montage saw all kinds of fashion influencers pop up on the campus. A great time to fill Instagram posts with feeds, students pouted for selfies and every prop was used for some creative fashion shots. Leena Mathew, a JMC student said, “Fest season comes once a
year and this is the time to show off your best styling skills. Everyone in our college was speaking about how they’ll dress to impress.”
SECURITY ON POINT
After recent security issues in DU fests, there were tight security measures in place at the entry gates. People who didn’t have proper passes and valid IDs were sent back. Bouncers kept the long line of students waiting in proper order and bags were checked rigorously. In fact, cops kept a strict eye on passersby standing too close to the walls surrounding the college as well. Rekha Dayal, head of the internal security, referring to the recent incident at the Gargi College fest, said, “We’ve been pretty tough and strict about security. We are not allowing anyone without proper ID cards, not even our own students. Police have been deployed almost everywhere and they are doing an amazing job. This year we’ve kept extra security because recently something unfortunate had happened for which we feel extremely sad. So far, no untoward incident has happened in our college.”
ROCKING THE CAMPUS
On day one of Montage, the band When Chai Met Toast and DJ Van Moon had the crowds grooving to their enthralling music. But the energy could not be compared with Jubin’s performance on the second day. There was palpable excitement as students waited for him. Meanwhile, Ragini Tandan of Lamberghini fame shared the stage with actor Paresh Pahuja and belted out songs from her new album. And just like that, there was a roar as Jubin took centre stage and greeted the audience. As he started singing Dehleez Pe Mere Dil Ki, Tere Naam Se Hi Raushan and Hai Saaz Tu, the crowd cheered. “Ye college wala gaana hai to sab mere sath gao,” he said as he sang ‘I feel love when I look into your eyes’. And turning a tad flirty, he sang Gulabi Aankhe, saying, “This is for all the beautiful girls here.”
“Jubin’s performance was amazing, we had so much fun,” said Revathi Hareendranath, a first-year student. Another student, Catherine Gomes said, “Montage ’20 was an amazing experience. Loved to see When Chai Met Toast perform on the first day and Jubin Nautiyal’s Bollywood night was an experience I was happy to be part of.”
I am very excited to perform here today because I am also a DU student from South Campus. You all are amazing, guys. I can see the boys here being so excited — Ek hi to mauka milta hai becharo ko girls college ane ka!
