Let Irrfan recover in peace: Deepak Dobriyal

Actor Irrfan is going to be back on the big screen soon with Angrezi Medium, a film he shot for immediately after undergoing treatment for neuroendocrine tumour. However, he had announced in an emotional video that he will be missing from the film’s promotional activities, owing to his ailing health. And co-star, Deepak Dobriyal, who is reuniting with Irrfan after Hindi Medium (2018), says though the actor’s health and recovery is everyone’s priority, they do miss having him around.
“I can’t tell you much about his health status since he has been low key of late. But I know that he wants to be left in peace and should not be disturbed,” shares the actor, who even made his acting debut with Irrfan in Maqbool (2003).
Criticising the constant hounding the actor has to face whenever he is seen in public, and the constant speculations about his health, Dobriyal adds, “There were videos and reports about him that went viral (hinting at the video in which Irrfan was being led out of the airport on a wheelchair.) Sab utt pataang baatein likhi thi unme. It is very disturbing. People need to understand that he needs his space. He should just recover in peace,” he continues, “I know he is a celebrity, but a celebrity also goes through a lot of problems and that needs to be respected. He will be fit and fine soon, and come back.”
Dobriyal further shares that Irrfan was still undergoing treatment during the making of Angrezi Medium, but the level of dedication that he has towards his craft astounded everyone.
“Aapko film dekh ke toh ye lagega hee nahi ki unko zukaam bhi tha. He is a fighter. He is dedicated to his work and he is a daring actor. The way he has done it is with the same kind of earnestness he always has. There was absolutely no compromise,” he says.
This is the second franchise that Dobriyal has been part of, the other being the Tanu Weds Manu franchise.
So was there any pressure doing Angrezi Medium, since the first part was so successful? Dobriyal doesn’t think so. “The pressure is on the writer and director in such scenarios. An actor will just come and play his part. I think they all have done a very good job,” he adds.
