My struggling days were a learning phase, says Parvin

- Shreya Mukherjee

Parvin Dabas believes in being content with the little things in life rather than losing sleep thinking about others’ success and opinions. Apart from his passion for acting, he is also a fervent photographer, travel junkie, sports enthusiast and runs a production house. The actor shares he enjoys each one of his interests with equal intensity, and that’s the reason why he is ready to wait for the right film offers instead of rushing into things.

After his 2018 film Kuldip Patwal: I Didn’t Do It!, he has only done web projects.

“Having done different kind of films and exploring more things on the web, I don’t want to give into anything that isn’t exciting.

So much is being offered but I can’t give into all of them, at least at this point in my career,” says Parvin, who made his Bollywood debut with Dillagi (1999).

He also talks about getting typecast with roles. “After Monsoon Wedding (2001) and Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006), I started getting similar roles. So, I had to be really choosey till Ragini MMS 2 (2014), where I had a role with grey shades. They (filmmakers) don’t see me in such roles. Since Ekta (Kapoor; producer) is a friend and knows me well, she explored that side and people liked it. That’s what I want to do,” he explains.

On whether he feels Bollywood is a difficult place to survive, he says he never looked at it like that way. “When I came to Mumbai and had no money, the ₹10 meals I had also made me happy. I never looked at it as my struggling phase, but a learning phase. To have a good time you don’t require money, you can just stand in the beach, enjoy a peanut worth ₹10 and be happy... It’s never tough for talented people, it’s just about the time ,” the actor says.

Parvin, who will be seen next in a web show alongside wife and actor Preeti Jhangiani, also has a few film and web offers. He might also act and direct his second film after Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande (2011). And, he is busy with his upcoming photo exhibition and promoting arm-wrestling.

“There’s so much to do in such a short span of time. I’m enjoying every bit of it,” he signs off.
