AISHWARYA SAKHUJA

ACTOR

She made her Bollywood debut last year in Ujda Chaman, and even though Aishwarya Sakhuja had quite a small role in the film, she left a lasting impression. The film didn’t get a positive response at the box office, however, things picked up after its release on an OTT platform. And it’s obvious for the actor to feel a bit disappointed, given the theatre reaction her debut film received.

“The good thing is that in today’s day and age, digital medium has made things easier. While I wasn’t thinking whether the film will work or not, I was obviously expecting something positive out of it, but it didn’t happen. Now that the film is doing well on the web, I’m happy,” says the actor, who is happy that even though her role was small, it was a “good character.”

Before venturing into films, Aishwarya has had a successful stint on the small screen, and maybe that’s why she is clear that no matter what, television won’t ever take a back seat while she’s doing more work in films.

“TV is my comfortable place. I don’t think I’ll leave it for anything. It’s a beautiful time to be on TV. Different stories and characters are being explored. There’s no set formula to make any show, so you can do much more with your craft,” she shares.

Given that she has mostly done lead roles in TV shows, does it bother her to not get similar parts in films? The actor asserts, “Every medium has its setbacks. Also, audience might not accept a TV actor in a lead role in films or vice versa. So, acceptance from both viewers and makers is a major factor,” she says.

The web, Aishwarya feels, is a completely different game. “It’s comparatively a new medium and has no such restrictions. For me, I don’t think much about all these. Bas apne role ko achhe se nibhao, kuch kamaal kar jao, yahi sochti hoon main,” she adds.

However, she is a bit skeptical about the medium.

“Honestly, web did grab a lot of eyeballs initially and some content is doing well. But, I feel the medium is overdoing certain things now. Whether it’s good or bad, whether they’re capable or not, there are many making content for the web. This is happening to the extent that some sleazy content is also being put up to get attention,” she opines.
