I’m more than just a pretty looking girl: Amyra
Essaying roles that are close to real life has its own charm, and that’s what excites actor Amyra Dastur. The 26-year-old wants to do more content-driven, meatier roles, which have a “realistic approach”. Dastur is happy with the kind of roles that are coming her way. She feels that they are helping her to break the image of just another glamorous actor.
“I love it when I don’t have to get dolled up and my hair and makeup takes only half an hour. That’s the favourite type of role. I like to play deglam roles because in that you’ve to actually act, and not rely on your whole look and dance,” says Dastur, who will seen next in political thriller web series with Saif Ali Khan.
Dastur has done films such as Issaq (2013), Kaalakaandi, Rajma Chawal (both in 2018) and last year’s Judgementall Hai Kya and Prassthanam. The actor had refused many projects that put her in the glamorous actor’s slot.“Once a director narrated a complete story for an hour, but didn’t say anything about my role. When I asked him, he replied, ‘You just have to look pretty’. I made an excuse, saying that I don’t have dates and didn’t do the film. I said no to many such projects in which I had to do just look pretty. Now such offers don’t come. I’m happy that phase has passed, and people think of me more than just a pretty face now,”says the actor.
Dastur made a conscious decision to pick roles that are worthy and interesting. “Even if it’s a five-minute role, if it’s interesting, which might create an impact, I’m fine. If a role offers a lot of money, but requires you to look pretty on screen, I’d wait for something better. I would like to choose unconventional and meaty roles and scripts over commercial projects,” she signs off.
