If I can do good in a small part, I can do wonders as a lead: Jatin
He started with theatre and moved to movies before landing a breakthrough role in the web series, Sacred Games. And, Jatin Sarna’s role as Bunty in the series, opened up the floodgates of more film offers for the actor, who is steadfast in his focus towards getting increased visibility in films, especially in lead roles.
“Everyone wants that, and I am no different. If with limited screen presence in Sacred Games, I’ve made an impact, how will it be if I get proper time? If I am in the lead, I can do wonders...that’s what I feel about myself. And that’s my priority,” says Sarna.
Based on the feedback received for his role, he says people have told him that he has “the potential” of a lead. “I want to explore a character where there the focus is on me, and I have the liberty to do things,” adds the actor. Sarna says sometimes doing a side role can make one restricted as far as expressing one’s needs is concerned. Sarna desires to dabble with action, romance, comedy and every other aspect of acting. “Only if it’s a primary character, one gets the chance to do that. This exists in films and can’t be denied,” he says. However, Sarna admits that character actors have a newfound presence in showbiz today.
In terms of directors, the actor has already worked with names such as Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya
Motwane, Hansal Mehta, Abhishek Chaubey and Kabir Khan. And Vishal Bhardwaj, Zoya Akhtar, Meghna Gulzar, Imtiaz Ali are on his wish list. Instead of getting more offers on the web after the success of Sacred Games, it’s interesting to note how Sarna has been flooded with film offers. “It’s about the intention, and my intention is to do lead roles, work with great directors and producers. Aaj nahi toh kal I’ll do that. That’s my confidence. I’ve got calls for about six series, but I haven’t found anything that I’d go for.”
Asserting himself, he adds, “I’m made for films. But it’s not that if I work in a web series, I’ll do it with less dedication, and films with zyada dedication.”
