Actor Vijayendra Kumeria, known for his portrayal of Suraj Rajvanshi in the TV show, Udaan, is a voracious reader. In a tête-à-tête, the 33year-old actor talks about his reading habits and more.
Which books are currently on your reading list?
I am currently reading Becoming by Michelle Obama, and The Lost Night.
Which is the best book that you’ve read so far?
I’ll have to say Bhagavad Gita.
What are your favourite genres? Which ones do you avoid?
I enjoy reading biographies and thrillers. I avoid Mills & Boons as they’re not really my thing.
Which is your favourite fairytale or folk story?
I’m not a fan of fairytales. I like books written by Robin Sharma, such as The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, and Elif Shafak’s Forty Rules Of Love.
Which book do you think one should read at least once?
The Alchemist and Bhagavad Gita.
What do you read when you’re travelling?
As I love travelling, I generally try and buy a book, set in the place that I’m visiting. Usually to understand the history of that place and its specialties. Or, I’d pick up any best-seller that’s recently come in the book store.
What kind of a reader were you as a child? Share some childhood
stories of reading books.
My grandmother used to read out stories from Mahabharata, and I used to read a lot of Dan Brown novels as a kid.
If you had to name books that made you who you are today, which ones would that be?
The Phoenix, Wings Of Fire, and All The Light We Cannot See.
Which author would you choose to write your life story?
I would write it myself as I love writing.
