Muzamil feels the eight-year gap was worth all the wait
Mention Muzamil Ibrahim and the first thing that comes to mind is his popular music videos, Pardesiya, alongside Rakhi Sawant, and Lucky Ali’s Kabhi Aisa Lagta Hai. Both the hit tracks made the model-actor an overnight sensation, and he soon made his Bollywood debut with Pooja Bhatt’s Dhokha (2007). However, he took a break after his second film, Will You Marry Me (2012), and is now making a comeback in an upcoming web show.
Ask him why such a long gap and he’s quick to reply, “After both the films I did, I was getting similar roles. When I’d tell the makers I’ve already done such characters, they’d tell me I look good in such parts and audiences have also accepted me, so I should continue doing that. But, I couldn’t repeat myself.”
Like many others, who don’t hail from a film background, Ibrahim, too, admits that it isn’t easy for outsiders to realise their Bollywood dreams, and he feels he was “too young” to understand the ball game.
“Some discussion happened in between, but nothing materialised. So, I decided to wait for something till I got this web show. I play a RAW agent and the story reveals lesser known facts about them. I felt this would help me put forth my potential, so it was worth the wait,” says the actor.
Given that he has had a stint with films and now web, will he ever give a chance to the small screen? “TV was never a love affair. I was offered crazy amount of money and even lead roles on shows, but I wasn’t keen. I’m more interested in films. Now, web has caught my fancy for the opportunities it offers. But, if this web show hadn’t come my way, I’d have taken up work on TV to stay afloat. After all, surviving in Mumbai isn’t easy,” he says.
Ibrahim, however, made the most of the time while he was on a break. “I learnt how to write because I want to write film screenplays in future,” concludes the 35-year-old.
