‘I think we should make more films on and for children’
Bollywood filmmakers have, indeed, churned out some great stories and dabbled with different genres, but Mrunal Thakur feels not many films are being made for or on children. According to the Love Sonia (2018) actor, children in India watch a lot of international films, especially around superheroes and animated characters, but not many that are being made by Indian filmmakers.
“I think we should make more films on and for children here. I have a 15-year-old brother and I see him watching mostly international films. Why don’t we have something like a Spiderman or a Cinderella in India?” asks Thakur, adding that she would love to be a part of such films in India. Citing examples of films such as the Krrish series, Chillar Party (2011), and Killa (2015), the 27year-old goes on to say pressing issues can be highlighted through such films. “Stories around climate change, forest fire, saving water, the pressure they (kids) feel to perform well, can be highlighted through these films. There is so much that can be done,” says the actor, who was last seen in Batla House (2019).
Thakur who has two sports films — Jersey alongside Shahid Kapoor and Toofan with Farhan Akhtar — lined up, is reportedly also being considered for the Hindi remakeof the hit film Thadam starring Sidharth Malhotra. She will also be seen playing the role of Sivagami in a web film that’s based on Anand Neelakantan’s book The Rise of Sivagami. Talking about her role, that instantly makes one recall the iconic character from the Baahubali franchise, Thakur shares, “Baahubali was a huge hit, so I know there are expectations from this one as well. And Ramya Krishnan totally owned the character.”
“Being part of such an interesting concept is a benchmark in itself. l am enjoying every bit of the experience,” adds the actor, hoping to reach out to a wider audience with her portrayal.
