I may know all the right people, but I still have to audition, says Akansha

Having grown amid all the glitz and glamour of showbiz, being wellknitted in the film industry is a given for any star kid. But for actor Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, who’s the daughter of actor-producer Shashi Ranjan, things weren’t that easy. Kapoor recently made her acting debut with a web film, Guilty, and reveals that she had been auditioning for films for the past seven years before bagging one.

“My first audition was for Armaan Jain’s film (Lekar Hum Deewana Dil, 2014). I have done my rounds of standing in the queue and giving auditions,” shares the 25-year-old.

Further talking about the journey to her first film, Kapoor says that it happened after a lot of running around and not because someone recommended her. “I may know all the right people, but I still have to audition. Even if I have dinner with them, the next day I would be testing for their films with casting directors. My process has not been any different from that of someone who doesn’t belong to the film industry. No one can take away from me what I’ve gone through to get a film,” adds the actor.

Her debut project was coproduced by Karan Johar — someone the actor shares a warm relationship with. Kapoor is quick to add, “I auditioned two to three times before I actually got the part. In fact, Karan found out about it much later.”

Kapoor has been receiving rave reviews for portraying a girl from Dhanbad in Guilty, which also has actor Kiara Advani in the lead role. The actor says she is elated with the response to her portrayal of a sexual assault victim.

“I wake up everyday feeling

like being on top of the world. I am, by nature, a very nervous person and my dad wanted to celebrate before the release, but I stopped him from doing so. But after the release, when

I started hearing good things about my acting, I was like, ‘Let’s pop the champagne’. So, I’m in a good place,” she shares.
