pandemic, would agree that there’s no party without music! And this has led many denizens to look out for music performers to join them at virtual gatherings.

“In April, we started getting queries for virtual performances for charitable causes, but now people are inviting us for their private virtual parties,” says Durjay Bhaumik, a tabla player, adding, “I performed virtually for someone celebrating Bengali New Year. Such events also keep our motivation level high by providing us employment.”

Delhi-based DJ Sumit Sethi recently performed at a birthday party, and says, “Some parents prefer separate virtual gigs while some ask for a common link that I share through my Instagram. For a common celebration, all those who are willing to join can enjoy the virtual party. I love this concept; it’s too much fun! We get to celebrate the big days without flouting rules.”

Some of the performers have even made arrangements to take in customised requests. Kushagra Mathur, a singer from Pune-based band Monks

Inc, says, “I’ve a setup at home. So, recently when somebody gave me a playlist to perform virtually, I found it a very different experience that has its own vibe.”

The rise in trend of such performances has also been noticed by virtual party planners such as Delhi-based Varun Singh. He says, “Not just singers, there are also magicians and other artistes to make such parties happening! What’s wonderful is to see kids happy and enjoying their day at a virtual birthday party.”
