Kangana’s fierce feminine style
Sunglasses, chiffon sarees and pearls have been key components of Kangana Ranaut’s personal style. If one studies her airport looks, the image of the late Gayatri Devi comes to mind. The actor, who’s been at the centre of controversies of late, expresses her emotion through a distinctive sartorial flair — a closet full of soft, floral print sarees and easy breezy tunics in organic, handwoven fabrics. Usually, resilience and rage are equated with the colour black, but her personal style goes against the very grain of rebel chic. The phrase ‘flower power’ is often loosely used, but looks like Kangana truly believes in the potent divinity of florals, or at least her sartorial picks would have us believe so. Designer Aniket Satam hails it as a stylistic strategy to channel her inner femininity. “She’s changing the oft-perceived notion of the ideal feminist. Her well thought-out outfit choices prove a quintessentially India Proud aesthetic, be it the feminine pastels with spring florals, delicate chiffons or organic cottons. Unlike the slogan-driven T-shirt mania, this antithesis of creative image works in her favour and proves one can curate one’s stylistic self without conforming to popular belief. It’s like being a strong-headed woman without sacrificing or compromising the feminine element,” he says.
Stylist Isha Bhansali observes that
she’s being herself. “Otherwise, you see a dressed up version of her, this is a relatively toned down format. Kangana’s always gravitated towards handloom cottons, linens and has been a synonym for pastel and floral sarees. More than anything, it’s her personality and the way she carries it off well,” she adds.
