What’s in your dabba, we ask TV stars

-

JASMIN BHASIN

I’ve always had the habit of carrying dabbas from my home since my first show. The breakfast usually includes eggs, sabudana khichdi or poha. My second dabba is full of fruits, which I eat either between breakfast and lunch or in the evening. My lunch consists of one dal, one vegetable and rice. In evening snacks, I eat popcorn or carry kebabs from home.

So, all in all, I carry at least five to six dabbas to a shoot. When I’m in a mood to cheat, I have set food, especially evening snacks, which include yummy samosas and bhajiya.

ARJUN BIJLANI

I mostly prefer homemade food. I carry three to four dabbas of dal and rice. I carry a little extra food for other people, too. Besides that, I carry a salad and fruit dabba also. I avoid eating set food but if sometimes it’s late and my shoot location is far from home, I order something. Healthy food that I eat is nachni (ragi) ki roti, green vegetables, bajra roti and one bowl of brown rice. In drinks, I prefer coconut water and fresh fruit juice.

SHRUTI SETH

There is an amazing gentleman who is my caretaker on the set. He’s like my set mother and makes sure that all day, I’m replenished with food and water. I carry enough afternoon and evening snacks for the day, I have munchies and a heated lunch box with dal, chawal, sabzi, salad — all ghar ka khaana. I don’t end up eating set food unless absolutely necessary. I’ve been taking ghar ka khaana since I did Shararat. I literally take a little pantry with me.

ADAA KHAN

Luckily, I stay with family, so it is very easy as they cook food for me. I take normal simple food, not diet food. I take two meals, and depending on the shift, I carry fruits and nuts. I usually avoid eating set food, but if something is very yummy and tempting, I just try it a little bit.

SHARAD MALHOTRA

I carry mostly two to three dabbas on sets. I prefer homecooked food because it’s healthier. I carry proper meals and some healthy in-between snacks. There are multiple small meals so that I don’t starve myself. Sometimes shoots can go on for hours at a stretch, so it’s better if there are dabbas available. Also, sometimes my co-stars and crew also enjoy the food, so I take a little extra for everyone.

SHIVIN NARANG

On set, people say my room is like a canteen or kitchen. My mum cooks for me as she is in Mumbai since two years. The whole cast of my show has lunch in my room only. We have some vegetables, rice, roti, curd and chicken. I don’t carry diet food, and generally eat a lot of things like rajma chawal, chhole bhature, pav bhaji... I’ve realised that I’m a big foodie and I’ve a sweet tooth. On set, we share each other’s tiffins and generally, I don’t like to eat food alone. I eat with the whole team as it is said that good food makes good friendships.
