Care to the next level: Delhi Police aid the elderly get vaccinated
Police personnel are stepping in to help senior citizens get the jab and beat the pandemic
Amid the global health crisis and lockdown challenges, many senior citizens are struggling, with their loved ones being away from them. While it’s crucial for the elderly to get vaccinated for Covid-19, some are unable to get it themselves. So, Delhi Police has stepped in as caregivers. From getting the elderly registered for the vaccine to helping them reach the vaccination centre, they are doing it all!
One such heartwarming incident is of constable Kuldeep, who used to visit an elderly lady in Mori Gate, to provide assistance, and found out that she couldn’t get herself vaccinated due to mobility issues. He decided to carry her in his arms to help her reach the vaccination centre. Kuldeep shares, “Pata chala ki unko vaccine nahin lagi, toh maine kaha, ‘Main lagwa deta hoon’. Maine insaniyat ke naate madad ki... My seniors tell us to take care of the senior citizens. So, we’re trying to provide them with whatever they need.”
Mohar Singh Meena, SHO Bharat Nagar, has also been helping the elderly amid the pandemic. “I have helped more than 100 people, including senior citizens and differently abled people. Hum se jo ban saka woh hum karte hai... When senior citizens give us their blessings, it feels wonderful,” says Meena, sharing his feelings when he helped an elderly woman get to the vaccination centre.
In fact, Delhi Police personnel have shown care for the elderly throughout the pandemic. Head constable Naveen tells us once he received a PCR call from a senior resident, whose house help was unable to reach, and there was hardly any food at home. He provided necessities to the couple and even ensured that the house help is able to reach with precautions.
I helped her reach the vaccination centre in the spirit of humanity. KULDEEP, Constable
