Masala chai or filter coffee? Ahem, these are cake flavours!
With the festive season coming up, Delhiites seem to be keen to try something different. And mithai gift boxes are being replaced with baked goodies. So what’s next? Innovative, beverage-themed cakes. There’s Masala Chai Cake, Filter Coffee Cake, Thandai Cake or Sangria Cake to feel
the festive vibes!
For chai-coffee lovers out there, there’s Masala Chai Cake, Filter Coffee Cake as well as Horlicks Cake. “People used to call to ask if I had innovative flavours. They are bored of the regular Chocolate Truffle Cake,” says Devika Menon from Phool Kumari Bakes. “Recently, my cousin’s wedding was fixed, I wanted to take something special to celebrate the occasion. Since she is a tea lover, I decided to bake her a Masala Chai Cake, which had actual adrak ki chai in the batter and was eggless. It was such a hit that I had people at the gathering ordering it. That’s when I decided to introduce it in my menu,” she says.
“Masala Chai Cake sunke hi itna interest ing lag raha tha. We ordered it for my brother’s birthday. He’s a crazy chai fan and loved the cake,” says Mahima Sushil, a resident of Greater Kailash-I. Lavana Marwah, of Cakeulius in Greater Kailash-I, says, “I make Thandai Cake and Wine Cake, we have a lot of people opting for these. When anyone asks for what type of cakes I do, they get amazed hearing these flavours.”
Dhiviya, from Vasundhara Enclave, is a filter coffee lover and was thrilled to find a cake that was inspired by her favourite beverage. She shares, “When I got to know that home bakers are making Filter Coffee Cake, I was so thrilled. I knew I had to order it on my birthday! .”
“We’ve been getting orders for our ‘Cocktails as Desserts’ line,” says Gaurri Gupta, who runs a home kitchen As Simple As Pie in New Friends Colony. “We even have a Naughty Line in our menu that comprises cakes such as Whiskey Sour Cake, Gin and Tonic Cake and Sangria Cake among others.”
