BOX OFFICE WILL BE HIT BY 50% CAPACITY RULE: DAISY

Busy with work again, Daisy Shah expresses concern about impact of restrictions on theatres

Daisy Shah was recently in London (UK), shooting for her first project after the second lockdown restrictions were lifted in India. Back in Mumbai now, the actor has resumed work on other projects. “Things look better and busy now,” she says, relieved that life is getting back to normal.

Ask her if she was scared to travel to another country to work and she says, “Not really. I feel if anything is supposed to happen, ghar pe baith ke bhi ho sakta hai. That doesn’t mean you restrict yourself from living life.” However, Shah, 37, is quick to add that it is indeed necessary to be “cautious” and adhere to

Covid-19 safety norms.

While restrictions are being lifted and life is steadily picking up pace, one sector is yet to fully get back on its feet: theatres. Films such as Chehre, BellBottom and Thalaivii released on the big screen with limited occupancies, and a key market like Maharashtra is yet to allow cinemas to reopen.

On this, Shah reserves her comment as she feels actors do not have much of a say in that decision, but she does express concern. “As actors, our job is to come on set, work, and then once the product is ready, the producers and distributors’ role comes in. Now, 50% capacity [is allowed in theatres] and I’m pretty sure it is going to hit box office very badly. But again, it is a situation the producers can talk about, not me,” she concludes.
