I learnt from each failed audition

- Deep Saxena

AThere were cases when my age didn’t match the part or my looks didn’t fit. Or my acting had shortcomings. NEEHARIKA ROY, Actor

ctor Neeharika Roy has learnt from every rejection that came her way during auditions, early on. Roy, who started as a child artiste, doing cameos before she graduated to small roles, is now playing the lead in a daily soap.

“I started auditioning early, but I was not able to clear them. There were cases when my age didn’t match the requirement or my looks didn’t fit in. Or, when I cleared the look test, there were some shortcomings in acting,” she continues, “Now, when I look back, I realise I learnt something from every audition where I got rejected. Perhaps I didn’t realise it then, but I kept learning from my mistakes.”

And that, Roy feels, helped her develop her acting skills. “Also, the biggest lesson that I learnt was that destiny plays a big role,” adds the actor of Tera Yaar Hoon Main (TYHM) and Bharat Ka Veer Putra Maharana Pratap fame.

“I have done cameos in a couple of shows and some episodics, too. But, I was not getting the satisfaction I wanted. So, I began auditioning for major roles, and as luck would have it, I bagged the role of the protagonist in my latest show,” she shares.

But she’s not done with her goals yet. “Right now, I am concentrating on making a mark on television and to give my 101%. [But] I have lot of things in mind. I want to do big [projects] on different mediums. I am sure my hard work will lead me to bigger roles in future,” she says.

Talking about her journey, the actor, who hails from Kolkata, says, “My father wanted me to become an actor and he has been my guide. He saw me perform on stage in society shows and in school. Perhaps, he realised that I can do something in the entertainment. I am a single child and I am very happy to make my parents proud.”
