A toast to ties

- Sanchita Kalra

Israel celebrated its 74th Independence Day with much fervour back home last week, but celebrations in the Capital were no less special. From a lavish spread, comprising delicacies such as baba ganoush and falafel to a surprise performance by Fauda actor Tsahi Halevi, who sang Kishore Kumar’s popular song Tere Jaisa Yaar Kahaan, the grand celebration also marked 30 years of diplomatic relations between India and Israel. Beats belted out by a DJ, who came all the way from Israel, also kept the celebratory spirits high.

Israeli ambassador to India,

Naor Gilon said, “The relation between our nations go back decades, as two old civilisations with close cultural links and historical ties.” Chief guest of the evening, Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar, said, “Despite the geographical distance, the natural affinity between our people is visible.”
