One in four adults suffer from hypertensi­on in India

High blood pressure is now a full-fledged health crisis, with at least one in four adults suffering from this condition in India, said health experts on the occasion of World Hypertensi­on Day (May 17). Hypertensi­on is also considered the world’s biggest killer, and is said to be responsibl­e for at least 8.5 million deaths. Worldwide, at least 1.4 billion people live with this chronic condition.

Experts also pointed out that in India, untreated and uncontroll­ed blood pressure has become a leading cause for premature death and disability.
