The death of actordirector Satish Kaushik has left a vacuum in the hearts of many, including the students and faculty of his alma mater Kirori Mal College (KMC), Delhi University. Kaushik, who was a BSc graduate of the 1974 batch, died at the age of 66, in Gurugram recently. In his remembrance, KMC held a prayer meet on Friday.

Kaushik was a part of the theatre society, The Players during his college days. This was one of the reasons he was closely associated with the cause of renovating the college’s auditorium, which is now set to reopen on April 8, as announced by Dinesh Khattar, principal, KMC. During the meet, Khattar said, “Satish was always affectionate and jovial with everyone he met.”

Some students share how they felt proud on getting admission in the same college as the late actor. Aparna Kaushik, a first-year BSc (Prog) student, said, “I only realised after taking admission in the college that Satish sir was an alumnus. The first thing

I remember Kaushik sir had a soft spot for the theatre society. AJEET CHOUDHARY, Student

that came to my mind were his iconic characters like Calendar (Mr India, 1987)! His screen presence is unforgettable and I still can’t believe that I won’t see him again.”

Staff members, too, shared their endearing tales of nostalgia. Seema Mehra Parihar, an associate professor from the department of Geography, said, “I was the student advisor back in 1999 or 2000 when he had come to the college to meet us. I remember he side-hugged everyone at the meeting and and joked to me, ‘Mere se hug milna mushkil hai, pet aa jata hai beech mein!’ It was such a real, heartfelt moment. He will always be in our hearts.”
