Soon after the deadline for submitting online application form for the Common University Entrance Exam (CUET) 2023 got extended to March 30, several aspiring college students heaved a sigh of relief. Many among them called this “extension as a gift”, especially during the ongoing Class
XII board exams.
Prior to this development, the last date for the application form was March 12. The application process commenced on February 9, days before the class XII board examinations began on February 15, which gave the youngsters hardly any time to apply.
Anshita Gusain, a student aspiring to get a seat in Delhi University, was in tears when she found it difficult to submit the application fees online. Narrating how the site crashed many times, she shares, “My fees was still pending, and I felt petrified thinking whether I’ll be able to submit my form on time. With the fresh deadline in place, I can finally finish my application process without worrying about dropping a year due to technical glitches. At present, my board exams are on till April 1, and this extension has given me a window to be able to wrap up my application process without compromising my prep time for boards.”
Siddharth Anand, another class XII student, was elated when he got to know about the new deadline, and felt a weight lift off his shoulders. “I was so stressed while writing my mathematics board exam as my mind was diverting towards application submission process. Later, for my economics exam, I could manage and focus on studying only because of this extension in deadline,” asserts Anand.
With more and more colleges accepting CUET scores, students feel that more options, be it for colleges or courses, will help them chart out their future in a better way. Shalini Nanda, a class XII student, shares how she just managed to submit the application in the nick of time. “Earlier, I just selected one course, that is Political Science because I was stressed about board exams and could not pay much attention to this process.
Now, I can make an informed decision about whether to choose an honours or a programme course and which college or department to opt for. This extension is a gift.”
Some students, who had applied well in time to meet the initial deadline, are now extending help to others during this grace period. Krisha Gill, a class XII student, shares, “I had already applied for CUET,” adding, “But after the news of extension came, a security guard approached me to help his daughter apply for CUET... This extension is good for students, especially those from lower economic households. It will provide them with a breathing gap between board exams and CUET applications that will help them plan their future in a better way.”
