I have been helping my juniors using social media. I make Insta reels on interviewing skills, communication and CV making. KUSHA KAPOOR, Maitreyi College
I intern with a student news portal, and because of that I know people in different organisations. I have recommended my peers for internships and helped them land interviews.
Final-year student,
My seniors were helpful right from the word go. They even helped me select firms based on my interests. And I landed one (an internship) at a startup as a marketing executive! JAGPREET KAUR, Second-year student, Maitreyi College
If in college, what’s the next word when someone says summer? Internship! In the hustle to complete coursework and enjoy college life, senior students at Delhi University (DU) colleges are going above and beyond to help their juniors succeed. These mentors act as guides, gurus, and networking experts, offering assistance with everything from CV vetting to policy-making internships.
Kusha Kapoor, a final-year Economics student at Maitreyi College, works in the college’s placement cell and helps her juniors by “making Insta reels about interviewing skills, communication, and CVwriting”.
She adds that CV vetting is a huge contribution for juniors: “Many students don’t even know what the difference is between a CV and a resume. Instagram reels are a sure-fire way to connect.”
Vaidehi Vyas, a final-year student of Political Science (Hons) and the head coordinator of the placement cell at Kirori Mal College, focuses on networking, suggesting her juniors try out different sectors and internships: “I suggested that a junior of mine who was once interested in appearing for the UPSC examinations try out the policy-making sector, and today she is interning at a prominent political party.” Tanmay Bhateja, a final-year student of Bachelor of Management Studies at Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, remembers how his seniors helped him in his “second year by decoding corporate jargon and even getting his interview rescheduled” when he had “conflicting appointments”. Bhateja adds, “They were always just a phone call away.”
