SThere is a large number of youngsters in the field [of dance], but many lack the required finesse. SAUMYA SARASWAT,

aumya Saraswat describes her journey from being a background dancer to making it as an actor “overwhelming”. But, dancing is still where her heart lies. The Pisachini actor tells us, “It’s not an easy task when your heart is into something, but due to certain reasons, you must make a transition. I loved dancing and trained rigorously for it. I joined Vaibhavi Merchant’s (choreographer) dance group, did numerous film songs as a background dancer and then tried choreographing stage acts too. But, I had the realisation that things were nowhere near what I aimed for. It was getting stagnant creatively as well. That’s when I thought of auditioning for acting and got a breakthrough with a TV daily.”

Saraswat, however, still enjoys her dance practises and wishes to stay connected with the art form. “It was and is my dream to come up with my own dance school, where I can prepare aspiring dancers to follow their passion for the craft. It’s not an easy road, I know. There are dance schools already producing and training numerous people, but I feel there are no takers for them,” she shares.

The motivation to start her school, Saraswat adds, comes from her own days of struggle. “I remember how tough it was for me, though I got to learn a lot in the process. It’s not as simple as it seems. Thank God, acting gave me a footing in the industry and now I feel, sooner or later, I will be able to do something more in dance as well,” Saraswat ends.
