SNAZZ IT UP WITH SNEAKERS LIKE RAKUL!
Comfort and couture collided when actor Rakul Preet Singh accessorised her lehenga with a pair of bedazzled sneakers for her haldi. Safe to say, we’re impressed
No longer meant only for street style, sneakers have quickly become a high fashion staple. This versatile footwear has been spotted everywhere, from runways to the aisle. Actor Rakul Preet Singh, who tied the knot with producer Jackky Bhagnani on February 21 in Goa, also tapped into the trend during her wedding festivities, giving a sporty twist to her bridal ensemble.
For her haldi ceremony, Singh donned a tropical blue and lilac printed lehenga choli that was studded with shimmering sequins, gold embellishments and crystals. However, the real showstopper was the bride-to-be’s lilac sneakers from designer Shubhika Sharma luxury label, Papa Don’t Preach. The lilac pair, embellished with gold designs and glitter, added the right amount of bling to an unconventional choice.
Tanushri Biyani, founder of a luxury footwear brand, says with this, Singh has joined the brides of today “who are redefining elegance with a comfy kick”. “The demand for bridal sneakers has skyrocketed, fuelled by our desire for authenticity and personalised expression. They are an extension of the bride’s unique style. They allow her to dance the night away without a wince, conquer outdoor ceremonies with ease and most importantly, feel confident and empowered on her special day,” says Biyani.
Weddings involve a lot of walking and dancing, and sneakers can be a comfortable alternative to high heels or traditional footwear, reducing the risk of discomfort or injury, especially on uneven surfaces or during outdoor ceremonies. If you are inspired to recreate Singh’s look, there’s a wide range of styles, colours and designs from classic white sneakers to embellished or custom-designed pairs to choose from.
Stylist Vikram Seth suggests, “If you are opting for a red lehenga and wish to do a monotone look, opt for a similar colour in your sneakers. It would be more flattering if the embroidery on your lehenga matches with your bridal sneakers, hence customisation is the key.”
