Every year, actor Mahira Sharma looks forward to Mahashivratri. After all, the festival is the perfect time for her to express her devotion and connect with age-old traditions. “I celebrate Mahashivratri by fasting, meditation and offering prayers. I observe a day-long fast and perform rituals such as bathing the Shiva lingam with milk, honey and water, offering Bilva leaves and chanting mantras,” the Bigg Boss 13 fame tells us.

On Mahashivratri, her day starts off by visiting temples to seek blessings, and this year, she says, will be no different. “The day is marked with spiritual practices aimed at attaining inner peace, wisdom and enlightenment. I will visit a Shiva temple and offer prayers this year as well,” she shares.

The Bepanah Pyaar (2019) actor feels that Shiva has always had a positive impact on all aspects of her life. “The influence is very pure. It has brought me peace, strength, relationships and overall wellbeing. I have experienced a deep sense of connection, moments of insight, solace and synchronicities during prayers,” says the 26-year-old, adding that the devotion has helped her navigate her professional life and inspired her to become better.

As a devotee of Shiva, Sharma has been to quite a few sites of pilgrimage. “I have visited Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar temple and Shiv Khori, a cave shrine located in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is one of my favourites,” she ends.
